What happens when I "save" a message, and how to actually save one?

Using Outlook 2003/SP1, if I open an email I've received and then look
under the "File" menu, there is an option Save (Ctrl+S) - exactly what
does this do? Does is save the message somewhere? It doesn't prompt me
for a location or a file name?

Second, I tried this because I'm actually trying to save a local copy of
an email that was sent to me with URL's, in this case pictures. I would
like to save the thing locally in such a manner as to not have to be
online to see the pictures - I want to save the message so that the
whole thing comes up just as it does in Outlook but when I'm not online.
Is there a way to do this?

TIA.

It saves any changes you made to the message back to your Outlook Inbox or
whatever folder the message is in. If you want to save the message outside
Outlook, the command is File | Save As.

try file/save-as. that should show you the default location and filename it
also lets you pick the format to save it in.
