What happened to my cd dvd drive?

I loaded dvdxcopy onto my dell machine and my dvd internal drive disappeared fron the my computer screen. I tried to reload it from device manager but that did not work, I get a message saying that the device driver was installed but windows cannot find it, error code 41. I uninstalled xcopy but I still do not have my drive back. Any ideas?
