Nothing has changed with Distribution Lists in Outlook 2003 except for added
features. Outlook has never used "groups."

My error in explaining.
Previous Outlook versions allowed creation and naming of groups of shortcuts
within the "outlook bar". You could then copy folders (links) and group them
under these "Outlook Shortcuts" much like placing similar folders under a
category in a file drawer. It made filing of email's into folders simple and
later, easy to retrieve. Even though there are shortcuts, there does not
seem to be a functional equivilent in Outlook 2003.

Still not sure what you're asking. Are you talking about Outlook's linking
to Folders on your hard drive? That's been removed, but I fail to see what
that has to do with the filing of emails, which is as easy as ever to
achieve.

No. This was storing emails, say from the same person, in a folder bearing
that persons name. That named folder would be stored under a shortcut
category (File Drawer analogy) on the outlook bar which was positioned at the
left of the screen (When the outlook bar was selected under the "View" menuy).

In other words (as I always utilized previous generations of Outlook) I
enabled the "outlook Bar" and it appeared vertically at the left hand side of
the page. Within that bar 'Shortcuts could be created and named whatever you
pleased (ie: this shortcut box was the equivilent to a virtual file drawer
file drawer). Under each of these named shortcuts (ie: Financial File
Drawer), you could create a Folder (let's say "Microsoft Tech Service", for
example). Then you stored all emails relating to Microsoft Tech service
within this folder. Made it easy to arrange, store, find, and retrieve
emails and info.

That capability doesn't readily exist in 2003 version.

The Outlook Bar has been replaced by the Navigation Pane. You can still
accomplish the Grouping function previously available in Outlook 2002 and
earlier by using Shortcuts.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, WRC asked:

Still does. The Mail view of the Navigation Pane shows all mail folders.
