I'm trying to Auto-Filter in Excel 2007. It's terrible! What did they do to
it?

In previous versions of excel, you would autofilter a column, then when
selecting the dropdown you just choose what you want to filter. Now it
seems I have to check and uncheck a bunch of boxes. Is there something I'm
missing?

I don't know how long you've been using XL2007, but most features, certainly
for most of the beta testers, grow on you.

Most of the features have been 'dumbed' down to let mr/mrs average user,
discover features more easily and produce quality presentation quality
documents, quickly. I the main they've achieved that.

Now, autofilter specifically. I appears that they have made the UI for AF
and Pivot tables, etc more similar and once you get used to the UI it will
all come rushing back. If you want to get old functionality then click on
'select all' and that will deselect all and then select the one you want,
granted it's one extra click, but 'select all' is always at the top of the
list. The other features you had are no more clicks away, sort (up or down)
are there at the top of the menu ladder. (one click), 'custom...' is one
click at the bottom of the 'number filters' fly-out (No click to access sub
menu).

Now... add to autofiltering... The ability to select multiple filters, by
clicking several items in the list, the auto-sensing of date, so with
numbers I get a choice of Top x, above and below average, and all the usual
greater, equal, less than and with dates I get Today, yesterday, this week,
last week, etc is great... THEN I get filtering by colour, a completely new
feature...

I think, like all of us, the changes are radical, but then, that's not
always bad. I would advise you to use it for a few weeks and then see how
much you like some of these new features.

Let us know...that'd be great.
