When I try to access media files on a external hard drive, the folder
displays an icon that looks like a house with a circle around it and a
diagonal line through it. The memory shows that the files are there, but I
cannot see them because this icon is present. Please help.

So.. you are getting the international symbol for "prohibited" over what
looks like a house to you?

What is this "memory" that is "showing you it is present"? Do you mean you
can see it listed as a file?

What type of "media files" are these?

The memory that is showing it is present is when I use the program Retrospect
to look at the media in my external hard drive, all of the files are listed.
They are AVI files that I'm using in Avid Liquid. I try to verify the missing
files through avid and when I open the folder with them in it, I get this
symbol.

Can you show us a picture?
