the caret ^ is usually used to represent Power as in 2^2 is raising 2 to
the Power of 2 or 2 Squared = 4
2^3 would be 8 etc.

means to the power of, as in 2^2

raised to the power of
3^2
three squared = nine
2^3
Two cubed = eitht

=3^2
