does anybody know how to retrieve your previous settings
after a power cut?
i had a power cut and my settings were all scrambled
which lead to unexpected results.

You use Drive Image, Ghost, TruImage or a similar program and restore the
image you created last week.

Apart from any 'backup' or 'restore' applications that you may employ to rebuild your computer, you can also try starting Windows to the 'last known good' if you have any bootup issues.

Prir to a full restore using 3rd party utilities, you should also try System Restore and the most recent checkpoint to the time / date when the System was properly operational.

My recommendation is a UPS battery backup. They are cheap enough
these days. I just paid about $25 for mine - in the event of a power
loss (not just a blink off/on) I have enough time to safely shut down.
