what do i need to connect my 2 computers

Ok, here is the thing, i just bought a new Laptop... no big deal... so what i
want to do is be able to share documents, play games (multiplayer) and stop
using floopy disks... the only thing i have is a LAN cable that my friend
gave me... i tried conecting them with the cable (ethernet) and tried to set
up a small or home connectiong... i didnt get it . So im here looking for
advice .

1 more thign i want to specify: I DO NOT want to connect to the internet,
just share files and stuff like that like craete a LAN with no internet...


please answer ...:)

If you have just a LAN cable, chances are it's a straight thru (patch) cable.
You need a cross-over cable. This article should explain the process.
