What do I need for DSL + Home Networking?

Hello,

I'm very frustrated, but instead of sharing what I've already tried (way too much info), I'd rather ask what I need to do from scratch. I have two identical XP Home machines w/ a single ethernet NIC in each. These two machines are connected to a DSL router, and both computers work just fine indepedently. I'd like the two computers to be networked to each other. Running the Network Wizard doesn't network anything & kills the DSL connection on both computers. Thanks for any suggestions on the simplest as possible setup.

Go wireless between the two computers for your Network. I had a hard time
using the Wizard as well. Now I am running ethernet and Cards and the
ethernet takes care of my DSL and the PMCIA card and slot card in the pc
take care of the network. And make sure to use the same company with both
cards. I had 2 different ones and had nothing but headaches. Now I have 2
D-Links and the network "Set itself up". No kidding. The day after I
installed the new card, I fired up both computers and it had set up the
network; I just had to set up the printers for each other; but that was only
removing 2 checkmarks.

Have fun and I recommend D-Link before you go running around all over the
place. And go for the G already and leave B behind. B is cheaper, but the
tendancy even for us everyday normal user is to use the better technology;
so go for the G.

Good luck

Paul,

Here are a couple websites with excellent tutorials.
http://www.cablesense.com/
http://www.homenethelp.com/

I share your frustration with the wizards. I find it's just as easy to setup
and debug problems manually. It sounds like you have the right equipment,
that's a good start.

If the tutorials don't help, post ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in
Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.

Cheers,
Chuck
