What are these Connection attempts?

I posted about this recently but still haven't fully fixed the
problem. Can anyone offer any further insights please?

My PC, possibly prompted by my already-cradled 2210 PPC, keeps popping
up a window I've never seen before, with a list of my DUN connection
options, and a message at the top:
"You (or a program) have requested information from isatap. Which
connection do you want to use?" (Research into 'istap' was unhelpful.)

Assuming I don't want to connect, and click Cancel, the message then
changes to a similar one, with microsoft.com as the target. And then,
aftre another cancel, avantgo.com.

When I posted earlier I was also getting many others, like
207.46.244.188, 207.46.249.252, 207.46.250.222. And it was impossible
to end the cycle without a forced close. (On investigation those
turned out all to go to the identical Microsoft MSN page, which again
is a mystery.) But, perhaps after running the latest AdAware as
recommended, at least that particular connection attempt has stopped.

But I'd dearly like to track down where that pesky Connection window
is stemming from, and sort it. Any further help or ideas would be much
appreciated please.

I don't think so, Philip - why do you suggest that please?

FWIEW, using a file monitoring program I found that, amongst many
other things, WCESCOMM.EXE was running when I allowed the connection
to proceed. And I found it is also in the HKCU/Run section of my
startups, although the significance of that is a bit obscure to me.

Any further ideas anyone please?

wcescomm - wcescomm.exe - Process Information
Process File: wcescomm or wcescomm.exe
Process Name: Microsoft ActiveSync Connection Manager
Description: Microsoft free synchronization manager that runs in the
background in the system tray and allows you to synchronize your Windows
CE-based handheld or Palm-size computer with your desktop computer. The
manager helps to synchronize documents, email, and calendar items.

this maybe is being triggered by a program like i pointed to before

Can you relate to this?

H/PC Connection Agent
WCESCOMM.EXE Active sync for use with Windows CE based palm PC

Henri, Philip: Thanks for those follow-ups. Looks like the presence of
H/PC Connection Agent (WCESCOMM.EXE) in Sratup is a red herring. It
needs to be running to allow my PPC to sync with my PC (Outlook tasks,
appointments, any files in special sync folder).

The key question is *what* is triggering it intermittently to connect
to those sites. So far that remains a puzzle!
