I have 2 computers running WinXP Pro SP2. One of the computer has SP2
preinstalled with the Windows XP Installer CD and the other was upgraded from
SP1.

Running my software on the preinstalled SP2 computer gives me popup error
messages whereas the SP2 upgraded computer does not give me any error
message. Both computers have the same hardware configuration.

Can anyone tell me what are the differences between the two, so that I can
fine-tune my software to accommodate the differences.

Thank you.

And what does those pop up error messages say? If you can post them then
maybe we can help you with your issue

The error message is "Access Violation". I believe this error is application
based and not OS based.

But how can I prevent this error? This error will only appear on the
preinstalled SP2 computer and not the SP2 upgraded computer.

Thank you

Yan,
With the upgraded computer you can still roll back to SP1 to fi
problems, with the pre-installed SP2, you can't. You have to live wit
what you've got.

With SP2 "Embedded" there is no \ServicePackFiles folder. This lowers
the XP footprint by ~600 Megabytes. Also, this causes SFC to only have
two search paths (DllCache & the i386).
