what applicaitons to install

If it's a new new pc it should come with a cd/dvd writer software but if

In order for your friend to access all the features of OpenOffice.org,
you'll need to install Sun Microsystem's Java Runtime:

Be sure though, that you disable Java in all browsers installed on the
system. Otherwise it will expose your friend to security vulnerabilities.

cleaning tools:

They keep moving PGP around (from MIT, to PGP, to GNU, etc.) so I'm not
sure WHICH PGP is the preferred site for both commercial and non
commercial windows users in the usa and beyond the americas - but it's
