Hi all,

Not having any problems; just curious as a cat <g>.

In my C:\windows\temp folder today, I happened to notice a file called
WGANotify.Settings. It's creation date is yesterday, and I was at MS
checking on some optional update downloads. At any rate, the contents of
the file are:
-----------------
Refresh Frequency on every 14 days
Show notification for every 1 logins
DaysBeforeBuyNow Unactivated = 31
DaysBeforeBuyNow Nongenuine = 14
Server DisableAll = false
Server DisableVLKID = true
Server DisableGetSP2 = false
User ReducedReminders = false
User ReducedVLKID = false
User ReducedGetSP2 = false
BalloonInterval = 2 hours
BalloonIntervalVLKID = 24 hours
BalloonIntervalGetSP2 = 168 hours
-------------------------------
Some of the settings it includes are interesting. Like I said, it's only a
curiosity thing, I'm having no problems, so I'm not stuck or anything. But
.... I was wondering:

It looks like I could be denied access to their network? Or is that
turning off MY network?
It also looks like they can deny me access to SP2 if I wanted to get it?
What is VLKID?
And what would the "days before buy now" be about? This isn't a new
system by any means, and even if I had a pirated system, I don't see where
those lines would have any meanings to anything. Any guesses?
And what are the "balloon interval"s?
I can't see any purpose to the record since, if it's a temp folder
location it can be deleted anytime. IS it used on subsequent visits? I
don't have the wherewithal to find out.

I know this is rather a mundane post and I'll understand if no one responds.
I just figured I'd see what relevant comments anyone might have.
Oh, and if all you have to offer is MS bashing and the like, forget it; I
won't be bothering to read anything not related to my topic, thank you.

TIA,

Pop`

VLK usually stands for Volume License Key.

Sorry I don't have a clue but you might want to look around and/or ask this
in the WGA group.
