I don't want to install that update so I put it in the do no show again list.
However, in about a few days, microsoft gets it off the list and tries to
make me install it again. Does this have to do with cookies?

No, it's more the History of Windows Update. The only way to have
the "Nag" go away would be to totally disable "Automatic Updates"
via the Control Panel Applet. However doing this will force you to do
manual updates. The only downside is the loss of Automatic notices on
frequent updates for Windows Defender. Normal XP updates are on
a fixed schedule, appearing the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Probably has very little to do with cookies but the fact
that WGA Notification has now gone through 4 (or is it now
5) iterations.

No: A new version of 905474was released today.

The following was posted in Windows Update newsgroup earlier today by MVP
Robin Walker:

<QP>
The new version number is 1.5.540.0, which is more recent than the manual
update recommendation previously posted to this newsgroup.

This version comes with a new EULA which starts by saying:

NOTICE: THIS UPDATE FROM MICROSOFT WILL HELP YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE RUNNING A
PROPERLY LICENSED, GENUINE COPY OF WINDOWS XP. SOME UPDATES AND OFFERS FROM
MICROSOFT REQUIRE A GENUINE COPY OF WINDOWS XP.

INSTALLING THIS UPDATE IS OPTIONAL. THE UPDATE WILL BECOME A PERMANENT PART
OF YOUR WINDOWS XP SOFTWARE.

INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR SYSTEM (FOR EXAMPLE, YOUR WINDOWS PRODUCT KEY AND IP
ADDRESS) WILL BE SENT TO MICROSOFT. MICROSOFT WILL NOT USE THE INFORMATION
TO IDENTIFY OR CONTACT YOU.

BEFORE INSTALLING, PLEASE READ AND ACCEPT THE LICENSE TERMS BELOW.

The EULA no longer refers to Beta software.

Genuine Advantage Notifications (Last Review: 27 Jun-06)

Sent this off to Microsoft regarding there Support item
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=921914:

The item information is full of errors.

No mention of File Protection and DLLCACHE, dealing with deleting the files.
Pathnames are incorrect.
Item is Add or Remove Programs ... not Add or uninstall Programs.
They forgot to mention, you must have Show Updates checked to see Windows
Genuine Advantage item.
Steps should be performed in Safe Mode and items should be remove from
DLLCACHE as well.

I asked them ... you reviewed that Support Item write-up?

Nearly everything had a mistake in it.

So your saying that the 5-7 times I needed to add it to the ignore list were
new versions?
