WGA Calls Home

Since the last WGA update a week or so ago, every morning when I power up
my machines, McAfee tells me that WGA is calling home. Is this normal?
And if it is normal, isn't this a bit much?

Both of my XPs are legitimate.

Thank you very much for any thoughts,
David

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) has always "called home" and will
always do. MS has created this "tool" to determine which XPs (and
other Windows) on not legit and WGA needs to have constant Internet
access to check. Other people are complaining about this so much that
several have coded removal tools.

When WGA installs, it validates the system. Why does MS feel the need
to have it check DAILY? Nothing like having your system come to a crawl
and find out that WU is running for no reason. I've shut it off on many
systems and then just patch after Update Tuesday.

I didn't install the latest WGA nor will I unless absolutely necessary.
I have my receipts for my purchases of XP. I have to re-activate when
changing the system components at times. What other proof does MS want?
What they want is full control. No wonder the "web app" is being
pushed onto everyone.

False. The first WGA/N stopped calling home due to the flack they
received. I guess the "new and improved" one is spyware once again.

The intelligent thing to do is never download and install it in the
first place and MS should be ashamed of themselves for calling their
spyware a "high priority" update.
