Today, less than half the posts have anything to do with freeware.
The solution is fairly simple.
If Nobody responds to the Rubbish, they`ll get fed up,
and go away.
Only respond to `on topic` posts.
Totally ignore the rest.

A few days ago, I installed the Gravity newsreader and set it to discard
all threads crossposted to more than 3 groups. Today, 100% of the posts
in a.c.f have anything to do with freeware :)

Just a thought...

Which isn't a feature in T-Bird or OE. Shoot.

Good practice; I've had XNews set to kill more than 3 for, oh,
years.

FWIW, whenever I've temporarily changed it -- out of curiousity to
see what the cross-posters are up to these days -- I've discovered
that I've not missed anything. Not even once. Clearly, more than
3 groups and it's *always* ignorable crap.

I hope he doesnt include my free live service post as a non freeware post.

It may not be a program but its a web application since sites are getting
more and more complex
sites are going to be more like programs... and its free, so I think my post
was legit.

Can you tell me how to do that, Harvey.

I had a similar rule in my spam trap, and it worked a treat against multi
addressed stuff

I only know how to do it in X
Go to "Special>Setup XNews>Misc"; first drop-down menu on the
left-hand, side under "Newsgroup Options" specifies the cross-
post limit.

(What I've never figured out is if "more than 3" means "3 or
more", or "4 or more"....I've always meant to check it, but I
think it means "3 or more".)

It means strictly more than three, so four or more. Another thing to
keep in mind is Luu's comment:

Note that the group you are currently reading IS counted, i.e.,
it's NOT "kill articles xposted to > n OTHER groups".

And another thing is that it uses the Xref header to do the counting;
this means that if an article is posted to a group your server doesn't
carry, that group will not be counted.

Thanks very much, Harvey, how come I never noticed that....must need new
specs!

Muche easier than the spam - the spammers sent loads to (e-mail address removed),
(e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed), etc.

The rule in poptray, which someone else figgered out for me after I gave up
was

multi-address To contains (.*@btinternet.com,*){2,}

But they haven't found my new address yet!

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

(I find that 3 works pretty well; I tried it at 5 and 2 for a
while, and found that a few too many loonies post to 4 groups at
a time, but that -- very occasionally -- somebody reasonable has
wound up posting to 3 groups. 3 works for me, anyway.)
