One more question. Once I plug the 2 IDE drives back in do I still leave
them as Primary and Secondary. Earlier when I plugged them back in the
ASUS board didnt show the SATA drive as a choice to boot from..

Hi, Mark.

I think the answer is yes, but I've never had an ASUS mobo and I don't know
what your BIOS requires. On my EPoX (Award BIOS), it's sort of a two-level
choice: first I pick Hard Drives, then I move my SCSI up to #1, above my
two IDE drives. Yes, the IDEs are still Primary/Master and
Secondary/Master.

Why don't you have a look around Tech Support on the ASUS website
(http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/mbindex.htm, if you are in North America)
and then select your mobo model number.

You might find other ASUS users with better advice in this Usenet newsgroup:

Leave them just as they are. The IDE channel still needs to know
which drive is which on the IDE channel. The only way it knows this
is the master/slave settings on the two drives.

On my ASUS I have to go to Boot|Hard Disk Drives|and set the SATA as the
first Drive
Then I set it as the 1st Boot Device under Boot Device Priority

Did as you said about priority and that works fine. Like I said in a
previous message I only have 2 drives connected at the time. SATA drive
and a CDrom. Yet when I start windows and boot from CD it gets to the point
where it is checking hardware configs and the screen goes black and nothing
else happens. any ideas.

Did you provide the SATA RAID rivers?

IT sees the drive in BIOS, my problem is when booting from CD. Once it
starts to check hardware settings the screen goes black..
