wife unplugged (by mistake) computer while it was on (did not get to shut
down thru windows). now, everytime i boot, i get a new screen that appears
right after the win splash screen. it says, "to begin, click your user
name". after doing this, i get, "welcome, loading your personal settings" and
then my desktop appears.

before this happened, i could hit the "on" switch, go put a pot of coffee
on, come back and my desktop was there. now i have to sit with it throughout
the entire boot process just to comply with the instructions on this screen.

how can i remove this screen and get my boot process like it previously was ??

any help would be app. tks

Have you tried a System Restore?

Under User Accounts in Control Panel, 'Change the way users log on or off",
have log on unchecked.

Hi,

Click start/run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and
click ok. In the user list, click on the user that you want to be the
default. Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok
and follow the prompts to set up a default logon.

hey, mr nutcase, your instructions were right on target. now i can put my
coffee on while system is booting.

many tks

tks for the reply, ron, but i didn't feel system restore was an option as it
had been over two weeks and many changes made since the incident occurred
with my wife.
unchecking the box in "change the way...." would not solve the problem as i
had already tried that, but thanks again for the reply

Rick;
I have the same problem where I used to turn it on and forget it; now that
screen pops up, and I have tried everything I can think of and what I've seen
posted, and one way or another I cannot get a clean bootup without having to
sit here and click through some password/user window. I believe this
occurred after a Windows update? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Nick S
