Welcome Boot Screen Problem

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem... but my bootscreen takes about 5 minutes to boot up. I got Norton and cleared out any virus' and fixed the errors it caused, but I still have problems with the bootup. My uncle recommended that I come to microsoft.com because he said there is a utility on the site that will recognize what files you are missing in Windows and replace them. Can anyone help me, if they know what I am talking about?
 
Start>Run "sfc /scannow" (without quotes)
have your XP CD ready.
