Weird RAM problem

Hi,

I got a weird problem since I installed my new RAM.

I wanted to upgrade from 512 to 1,5 gb by buying to new blocks - they
are exactly the same as my old block. And my mobo is prepared for three
blocks and up to 3 gb.

But when I installed them - the computer went sort of dead. Everything
is working. But my harddrive sort of just don't run. And my screen
only says "no signal".

Any of you guys experienced this?

First, I tried to pull out the two new ram-blocks. But the computer
responded the same: "no signal".
And this sense of working all right, but not running.

Then, I tried to clear the CMOS. But that didn't work either.

Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

What motherboard??? What memory?? Are they all EXACTLY the same? If your
hard drive "sort of just don't run" and your screen says "no signal", just
what is it that IS working? Reduce to minimum, motherboard, CPU and PSU,
remove/disconnect everything else. CPU fan should run and speaker should
beep error code for "no memory", usually a series of continuous beeps. If
not, is one of those three, otherwise add things back until you find the
problem.
Mike.

First, reseat the ram(check manual for positions)
then clear CMOS (manual for the jumper location and procedures)
load defaults if it didn't do this already.
reboot

Thanx, Mike.

It worked. Now the computer at least recognises my ram as 1,5 gb. And I
can access BIOS. And I've set the time right.
But I'm still having problems.
My win XP won't run. Not normal, not in safe mode. And the computer
keeps rebooting, when trying to run XP.

Tech.specs:
RAM: 3xKingston 512 mb DDR (KVR266X64C25) - one is three years older
than the other two.
Mobo: MSI SiS 648

Hope you can help me out.

And after following Jad's excellent advice above, remove all but 1 stick
of ram & try it in each slot until it runs; test the 2nd stick; use this
process to determine which stick may be bad. HTH, s

1.5GBs is a lot of memory for some cheap motherboards to handle. My
sticks of ram in my 1.5gb machine were rated for DDR400, however they
were double sided and the configuration I had them installed in required
me to run DDR333 or else I woould get lots of memory errors from a
variety of programs, with even a BSOD here and there.

My motherboard cost me over $400 when I bought it three years ago. It
is can handle up to 3gb ram, agpx8 and raid. So it shouldn't be the
mobo that's the problem...

And I now got it working with one ram block by testing which one was
bad. So, thanx for that one, Sdlomi2.

But now my system is unstable. I can run win xp, I can play games, work
with flash, etc etc. But sometimes the computer restarts. Or shuts down
the program I'm running.

Are you overclocking? Try setting safe or default option and see if it
makes a difference.
Mike.
