Eric

Hi,

I have a winXP system that seems to change its netbios
name every few seconds. I've done a nbtstat -A IP
address and it returns a different name each time.

The system has all current patches applied and has been
scanned with a current anti-virus program both locally
and from the internet.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Eric

Hi,

What happens if you go to the troubled XP client and run nbtstat -n several
times does the name still change or does it remain the same? If it remains
the same - is it plugged into a switch? Try moving it to a hub.

Thanks,

Hi,

On the trobled system, if I do just a nbtstat it returns
the correct name, but if I do a nbtstat -A IP address,
the names are different each time. One other interesting
note, is that I only have one nic card in the system, but
the MAC address returned varies between 3 values. Very
strange.
