Weird floppy on HP a475c

Thomas

Recently purchased an HP Pavilion a475c (at Sam's Club) with Windows XP
Home. I did all the Microsoft updates which I think brings it up to SP1.

I had not used the floppy drive before doing the updates. In the
process of transferring stuff over from an Win98SE system, I decided to
use the floppy. The WinXP machine will not read it. I can format a
diskette in the WinXP machine and successful write to it and open the
file that was written to it. Just tried to read that diskette on
another WinXP machine (Dell laptop) and it would not read it.

Interaction with HP – they say (much longer) go to http://
downloads.viaarena.com/WinXPE/Oct02/XPe_3mflp132_v10.zip and install the
driver in that file. They gave instructions on how to do it.

My questions:

Are others experiencing the problem wherein the floppy drive, which has
been around for years, comes on a new computer and it does not read the
standard FAT format (I have confirmed that that is how the WinXP machine
says it is formatting the diskette)?

Is there any danger in installing this driver? Yes it did come
recommended from HP, but I could find no reference to Viaarena with or
in my system.

Just seems weird.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Short of editing the floppy with the "advanced users" section, I have
done the other stuff. Newly formatted diskettes on Win98 and WinXP do
not work in the other system.

Either try the advanced users section, buy brand new floppies and try those,
or try the hp fix. HP's are full of proprietary hardware, so they'd know
better than anyone else if the patch works or not. There has to be a
solution cause floppies work fine on any xp machine I've seen.

Thomas,

Thanks for your posting here.

After reviewing the post, I think it may be caused by incorrect driver or
some backup software.

You may fist install the driver as recommended by HP.

In addition, please check if there are any backup applications running on
the problematic workstation

Hope this help! Have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards
