I want to increase the ranking for my website. Is there any easy way to
achieve this without making Mr Google even richer than he already is?

There are whole books devoted to this subject, giving advice such as
choosing the correct meta keywords, submitting to multiple search engines
etc.

I prefer to take the view (rightly or wrongly in our marketing obsessed age)
that if the website is any good, then the crowds will ultimately come
running. So improving the website would be my advice.

This isn't an XP OS issue. You might be better off posting elsewhere. BTW
there is no Mr. Google. It was started by two grad students from Stanford
University neither of whom was named Google.
 
Are you *ever* able to respond to a OT post, or what you consider to be a
simplistic and "everyone knows that" type of query with resorting to
name-calling?

You are indeed very lucky to have never been a "newbie". I wonder how many
first-timers you've scared away.

Well it seems to me you're a Communist! Why are you so worried that
someone may get richer? Class Envy, it's called. You're poor,
therefore everybody with a little brain and energy must also be poor?
Move to North Korea, North Viet Nam, Cuba or China. You may be happier
there! No one gets richer.
