I have an interesting problem. On a website I visited (online cartoon, in
archives) every time I hit the "advance to next cartoon" button, my browser
pulls up the dial-up modem connect box (and the modem is currently disabled).
Any ideas on why this is happeing and how I can get rid of it?

Open IE, click tools, options, connections, tick never dial a connection,
click Okay. That do the trick?

Unfortunately, it didn't. I use Netscape 7.2. On the other hand, today I
saw that when I started XP the dial-up connection box appeared, even though I
had not started the browser yet.

But thanks for the suggestion.

Hmm... I'm missing something (but maybe not so bear with me) here...

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Classic View
Internet Options
Connections tab
Tick "never dial a connection"

And yet it's still trying to dial out?

First my immediate jump is, "oh my, dialer configured to run with brower or
boot maybe?" And I'd suggest:

Malware Cleaning:

But, well, what about your applications that are running on boot? What if,
say, one of those was set to automatically update and to detect when a
connection was present or not but was also set to use dialup internet? That
might be the issue? For that, as your system is surely different than my
own, you'd need to check your own applications.
