Steve

Me and the other half are getting fed up with visiting websites that for
some reason keep obtaining our email address just via visiting the website.
we do not give any information at all but they some how manage to obtain
our email address.

How is this possible and how can we stop it?

Running windows XP pro with Service pack 2 installed. All current updates
are installed.

No, it is not possible.

Hope the info i give here is correct ... but afaik there are bots roaming
the net for email adresses, so a posted email address will be grabbed...
if that is correct a possible way around the problem is to change the format
from a link to the mail in question to a format like " NAME at DOMAIN dot
COM " .. that way ppl have to manually type the email in their client and a
bot wont grab it .. a similar thing is done here in newsgroups (
(e-mail address removed) )

This is not possible. It is more probable that your computer has some
malware or you've posted your email address on Usenet, messageboards,
or used it to sign up for something on a website that either doesn't
have a privacy policy or lied about it. It is also possible that a
friend or relation has an infected computer with your email address in
their addressbook. Bottom line is that your email address has been
harvested by spammers. Here are some links to help you:
