Ok, this is going to be a real silly question, but I could really use
some help here.
I have a lot of pictures that I want to share with family members
across country.
I figured I could set up a small web site on my PC running IIS. What I
have done so far is to put together a home page. However, I want to
know if it is possible to make a link to open a directory on my PC
(Same PC as the web site) or do I have to load each picture into say
Publisher and then work each page separately?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dan,

You should be able to do either, or a combination. One of the simplest (and
ugliest) solutions would be to setup an FTP server, pointing to a folder
containing all of your pictures. Then your friends and family could simply
download the pictures, by name.

Much more user friendly would be to display thumbnail copies of the pictures on
a web page, and link each thumbnail to the full size of the picture. Probably
be less bandwidth intensive for you too, since they could see what they're
getting, before downloading. But that is more work.

Not sure if this is what you want/need or not, but Microsoft FrontPage XP
and 2003 both have an "auto-thumbnail" feature where you can grab a number
of pictures and drag and drop them onto your page and it will create
thumbnails for them that the user can click to display or download the full
image. It will create a folder for the pictures and copy them to it when
you publish or save the Web page.
