Hi, We have a Dsl router connected to a Linksys router in
return that is connected to our AS400 patch panel. So
everyone that has access to the AS400 has access to the
internet. Is their a way to stop users from accessing
the internet but still being able to access the AS400.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, there should be a router option on this router (I have the linksys
firewall router, and have used the Linksys broadband router before).
Either that, or a good way of preventing it is to 1) configure the
computer's network properties as NOT DHCP, i.e. specify an IP like
192.168.1.200/255.255.255.0 2) remove any entries under gateway section and
3) go to advanced, to port blocking, and block everything except 135-139.
Disabling DHCP is optional, but blocking all ports on that machine except
135-139,445 it will only have local networking.
By the way, an alternative would be to block only specific ports, and these
could be 80 and 8000-8999 (http and proxy http) and 20-21 (ftp), and 1863
if you wanna block msn messenger, etc. However, a better solution would be
to use a good firewall router on the dsl side, but those get expensive.

Hi Melinda,

We have a tool that will be very useful for you called Browse
Control. It is for Internet Access Control. You can turn the
Internet on/off, schedule this event and even White List which sites
you want to be accessible. It has a very easy interface and does not
require you to worry about port blocking or any of that nonsense. It
also has Application Blocking which you can use to block applications
like MSN/Kazaa and once again does require you to deal with IP tables
and comples scripting.

You can download a free trial from:

Hope this helps,
Rishi Lukka
