Just create a shortcut with "%HOMEDRIVE%" as the location.

I have tried both the MS site and the other suggestion but with no success.
I have done it before but don't remember how. Still open for thoughts.

Right click on the icon or menu entry you use to start Windows Explorer. Select
Properties > Shortcut tab. Immediately after "explorer.exe" in the Target box,
hit the spacebar once and then enter /e
Delete anything already in the Start in box and enter C:\
Apply. OK.
