I sent a client a word document for review which they did and made
appropriate changes. When I received it back I accepted the changes and
saved the file. But after doing that I cannot reopen/resend the word
document without the final markup showing. How can I make these marks go
away???? It's very frustrating.

Thanks in advance for your input.

When you opened the file, had you first saved it on your HD, or did you open
it directly from the email? If so, it was stored as a temporary file and
deleted when you closed it or quit Word. The file attached to the message
does not change, so it will be the same every time you open it. If you want
to edit it, first Save As to your HD, then work on it.

It sounds like there are still tracked changes present. Did you try
accepting all changes in the document using "Final showing markup" and
are you showing all types of revisions?

I did save it to my hard drive and even tried to do a Save As and renamed it
but no matter what I do the Final Showing Markup is greyed out like it's not
an option I can select.

Unfortunately, the Final Showing Markup is greyed out and cannot be selected
along with many other options. When I click Show the only options available
to me are: Reviewers, Balloons, Reviewing Pane and Options. The rest I
cannot select?

I did as you requested and it asks me for a password to unprotect. I never
entered a password to protect this file so I just left it blank and clicked
OK but it won't accept a blank password. Any idea how to remove the password
without knowing the password -OR- find out who put the password on the
document so that I might contact them?

You can't remove the password on the document but you can create a new
document with the document content.

Create a new document and go to Insert/File and insert the protected
document. You should be able to accept the tracked changes.

I have the same problem with documents showing the review toolbar up and with
"Final showing markup". In your earlier response, I would like to get
clarification: If I choose Accept All Changes and save the document showing
Final, then I won't see any tracked changes. If I want to save that version
(with the tracked changes), then I should save it as a version BEFORE
accepting all changes, and then save it again as another version (that does
not show any changes)? Thanks!

Plus, I can't get the reviewing or forms toolbars to disappear from the
menu, no matter that I uncheck them in the custom toolbar menu or in the
View-Toolbar menu.

If you use "Accept All Changes" then all changes in the document will
be accepted and will no longer be saved in the file. The Original,
Original Showing Markup, Final, Final Showing Markup views will be
identical since there are no changes to display.

Once you Accept All Changes, save and close the document, then you
will not be able to retrieve previous tracked changes. (Prior to
closing you could use Undo to undo the accepted changes.)

If you want to save a copy of the document prior to accepting all
changes then I recommend you create another file rather than using
File/Versions. File/Versions is known to cause file bloat which can
lead to document corruption. Plus it is a prime source for metadata
and you don't want to accidentally send a sensitive a document to
someone since they could open previous versions of the document as
well.

Regarding your toolbars, are you saying you keep turning them off and
they keep turning back on again? If so then when do they turn back on?
Opening a document? Starting Word?
