hi i have 2 laptops with windows xp. One plays videos no problem, the
other says i need a video decoder.

i can not see any extra programs on the one that works, is this not a part
of xp. thanks

Different forms of media require a CODEC which stands for
Coder-Decoder. When you say videos, what format is it you
are trying to play ? If you're attempting to play DVD movies
they do require a software component not supplied with XP.

Hi,

Google dvix and xvid, as these are the codecs most commonly found missing
from systems (they are not included with windows, but rather come from some
third party programs). Installing one or both will likely resolve your
issue.
