Finally able to log in to XP, and I backed up my
important files. But because it is a second-hand
computer, I want to clean the hard-drive so the old
users' info isn't messing me up. Can I do a clean
install of XP and change the old registered user name to
mine?

I having this problem too, how did you fix.

I am getting "Windows cannot connect to domain, either domain controller is
down or unavailable, or your computer account was not found. Please try
again later. If message continues, contact system administrator"

I tried to rename the computer and think I might have disable logon by
entering it incorrectly and diabled logon to that computer completely. I
can log on as the user at any PC except this one and I can't log on as the
Administrator on that PC either. Prior to this rename, I was able to log on
as user and administrator with no problem.

Please let me know ASAP how to fix this.

Thanks,

Lisa Patzius

I had this problem before BUT it was caused by 'renaming the comp' My
ISP didn't recognize it anymore... I was able to get onto Windows but no
the internet. I am only on a workgroup here at home though.. not a
domain. IF you are on a domain.. it MIGHT affect your logging on to
Windows as well. Do you happen to remember what the comp name was or
can you contact the place of purchase?

Renaming the Computer is what I tried to do, but I think I might have typed
the new name incorrectely and attempted to login with the name misspelled
incorrectly too many times and disabled the logon entirely. Since I can log
on as this user to any other PC and as the Administrator at any other PC is
leads me to believe that is it a local PC issue. Kinda like putting your
pin number in wrong at the ATM too many times and it takes your card.

Looked in BIOS to see if "disable" was anywhere relating to logging onto
Windows. Found something that suggests that maybe I could log on in "safe
mode" to see if I can reset User Account in Control Panel. Was also hoping
I could view Computer Name in "My Computer, Properties" when I am in there
to see if I misspelled something.

Any ideas?
