Why won't Outlook 2007 work with Hotmail on XP, and why hasn't this issue
been addressed in the Microsoft knowledge base? I've Googled it enough to
know I'm not the only one with the problem. I've yet to find a solution.

Hotmail servers are among the most easily hackable. By removing our ability
to download those emails locally, Microsoft is pushing us towards GMail.

Just sayin'...

Care to eleborate on your findings?

Which error do you get when you try to connect to Hotmail? Also, do you have
a paid Hotmail subscription?

That one just made me laugh :-)

you have to download something called "outlook connector" in order for
hotmail to work with Outlook 2007. unfortunately, the emails will not reside
on your computer in outlook files. they are only available on the web. Also,
look to the bottom of your folders where your email address will be listed.
Open it up and you will see all your hotmail folders BELOW all your normal
outlook folders.

So did I when a friend of mine told me he could obtain the password to my
(or anyone else's) Hotmail account. Then he said wait... and came back to
the phone exactly 90 seconds later and told me my Hotmail password.

He said he could do it with anyone, and that "guys from work" showed him
how... but that he was sworn to secrecy about it.

Despite his re-assurances that he only looked up mine to prove that he
could, I've been downloading all my Hotmail emails locally on a weekly basis
nonetheless.

I've been using Outlook with Hotmail for years to transfer mail to local
folders. I'm pretty familiar with how it looks and works. I'm just saying
there's a bug that's specific to Outlook 2007 + XP + (possibly) IE7 that
will not let Outlook recognize your account. It'll keep prompting you for
the correct email and password indefinitely.

I'm laughing even harder now. Passwords are being stored in a one way
encryption meaning that you cannot retrieve the password in a readable
format not even by the mail admin. This is why passwords need to be reset
when you can't remember them.

Please don't multipost.

Nice lead, but what if you are using Vista?
