I had a Dell with Windows XP downloaded on it at the factory. I gave the
computer to my sister and I filled a online form to transfer the ownership to
her. I set up the computer and it is running fine, however, a pop up warning
appears indicating the software originally purchased with the computer may be
the result of piracy. I contacted Dell and talked to a technician and they
indicated that the hardware and software was transferred also but why does
she keep getting these warnings. I realize that they are not affecting the
operation of the system but how can Microsoft be notified of this and also
she is probably not get future updates. I tried to contact Microsoft also
with no success. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the Windows Genuine Advantage

My daughter has a similiar problem. She bought a computer from a local
dealer which no longer exists. She was given XP Home edition as the
operating system. She then had a hard drive failure and took it back to the
local computer dealer. He installed a new hard drive and a new XP operating
system which is not original and when she boots up, she always receives the
message that the operating system is priated software. I have tried to
reinstall her original XP operating system but I cannot since the one that
the computer dealer installed is a newer version. How can I re-install her
original XP Home Edition on her computer?
