warning 1909...

every time when i try to install a new software i get this error message:
Warning 1909. Could not create shortcut <filename>.lnk. Verify that the
destination folder exists and that you can access it.

i google it and i found something similar, but regarding to Office 2000

any idea?

Try running the lnk. file assoc. fix at this link.

Close to the middle of the page look for the fix...
LNK (Shortcut) File Association Fix (Restores Default Shortcut Behavior)
download,unzip,run and reboot.
Now try to install someting.

Sounds like either a system problem or malware.
Try a Repair Install of Windows (no data will be lost).
Toss all you AV and anti-malware software at it; at least three different
ones. Windows Defender would be a good one if you don't already have it. And
be certain to Update ALL of them before you use them so you have the most
current definitions.

If you come back, you need to explain what you've tried so far; people
aren't into just guessing when you include no useful informatioin and
especially what you've tried to date. Help & Support, Google, etc..

The following is the info stored in that download.

Paste the stuff between the "*******" lines into a text file.

Rename the file to linkfile_fix.reg then right-click on the file
and the context menu will offer "Merge" in darker black letters.
Use the Merge option to cause the contents of linkfile_fix.reg
to be merged into the registry. If you don't see the context menu
thing repaired, then try a reboot.

In its text form below, you can review what will be merged into
the registry. You also have the option of opening regedit and
looking at your existing registry entries, and seeing if all
of the changes below are already in place. Perhaps that
will give you some idea whether things were "damaged"
in the first place. If everything shown in regedit was as
shown in this refresher file, then you'd know this fix type
is not the source of the original problem. So you don't
*have* to install this file, to get value from it. You
can also use the file, as a means to analyze the existing
registry content.
