Howdy's,

Looking to replace the default winXP screen saver with one that is able to
refer to a .txt file or URL. That .txt/url/etc contains various messages.
Hopefully with just a .scr and registry based config :-)

There is an overwhelming number of 'screensavers' 'free' 'text' etc ones
around. However, they're either expensive($100usd per machine??), feature
ridden (read: bloated) or just not what I'm after.

Hopefully someone can dig up a name that might help me out?

note: email address will bounce, please reply to the group.

Regards,
Jason

XP has a screensaver with text ability. It's called "3D Text". Right-click the Desktop,
Properties, Screensaver tab, use the spin box to select "3D Text", then click the Settings
button to make it say what you want. Click Apply, OK

Hi there,

And there is also a marquee screensaver.

Neither have the ability for large amounts of text. Essentially I expect
this screensaver to be able to deal with the amount of text you see above,
200 to 300 word :-)

Cheers,

Jason

Hello,
You could write up the text files in notepad then do a screen capture
(ALT+PrintScreen), paste it into the Paint program, save it as a .BMP into
any folder you choose then use the My Pictures Slideshow screensaver to
display the captures from the folder you put them into.
It wouldn't look too fancy but it would work. And hey, it's free.

Or, more logically and MUCH easier, just do a Google search for either
scroller.scr or scrollie.scr. Either of those screensavers should do
the trick.

Scrollie is freeware; scroller costs $10.
