I'm running XP pro. I want to install modem type "parallel cable between two
computers", but it keeps prompting me for "selected ports" without listing
any. i've got a parallel port. it even says so in the device manager. i've
tried this on other computers as well (all of which have parallel ports) and
they all do the same thing. how do i make this work? (i have to have the
parallel connection appear as a modem for some other software to work.)
thanks for your help,

gary

You need a special parallel cable to connect 2 computers directly. See
here:

I have the cable - but the parallel port doesn't appear in the "selected
ports" list - the list is empty. when i attempt to do the same thing using
win 98 (instead of xp) on the same computer, the parallel port is in the
list. seems i have to do something with xp to enable the port for this kind
of thing. i can't use DCC (via the normal create a new connection in network
connections because i have to have this connection appear as a modem for
another program.
