When I select Start | My Documents it ALWAYS opens with Search Assistance
showing in the left column.
How do I get it to open with Folders showing?

I've tried the folder options business and selecting Apply this view to all
folders.-No Help.
Can't find anything on MS site. (what else is new!)
XP Pro SP2

I just spent 30 minutes searching the registry hoping to find a value there
to change.

Thanks

It's a missing value in the registry, and it's one that isn't in earlier versions.

Type in Start Run
regsvr32 /i shell32

Tried that. No help.

Slight error on my part. Actually what's showing is what you get when you
close the folders pane. It's a blue pane with the control boxes of 'Files
and Folder Tasks', Other places, and Details.

Now what?

Don't use Start - My Documents. The folder tree is not a setting. You start explorer in Folder view or Explorer view.

Start Menu\All Programs\Accessories\Windows Explorer

Yea, I think I'm figuring this out. I guess what I was hoping for was that
someone knew a registry hack that would make it do that.

Thanks

You can set everything to explore. Change the default action for folders from Open to Explore in Filetypes dialog.

Hot dog! That's exactly what I was looking for.
Totally forgot to look there.

Thanks a bunch.
