greetings-
I want to display files in every directory as a list w/details (file name,
type, date modified, etc.). The default display is ICON. Is there a way to
make the default LIST w/details?

Thanks,
CM

Open explorer and set the display to details. Go to tools|folder
options|view tab. Click 'apply to all folders'.

CM,

After you get everything as you like it, go to Tools - Folder Options
- View, and Apply to All Folders.

While you're in there, be sure to disable "Hide extensions for known
file types" in the Advanced settings list. That selection, which is
enabled by default, is a very bad idea security wise - it enabled the
spread of various viruses.

Cheers,

Chuck

Open a My Computer Window on a regular (not system) folder. Set it up
as you would like by default, including things like size and arrangement
as well. Then take its Tools - Folder Options - View, ensure that
'remember each folder's view settings' is checked, and then click on
'Apply to All' near the top
