After clearing some spyware using MS Antispyware utility, I noticed that my
BACKGROUND .jpg gets covered up by a solid white layer. The .jpg shows up in
DISPLAY BACKGROUND window, and displays ok, but shortly thereafter, it gets
layered over with solid white. I have tried using a .bmp of the picture, and
even a couple of REGEDIT commands as recommeded in another posting for a
"white screen" problem like mine.

ALSO, I no longer have the RIGHT-CLICK ability on my open areas of the
desktop. Nothing happens when right-cliking.

There are several similar postings, but nothing addresses this specifically.
Thanks!

Go to the Display applet in Control Panel and double-click it. Go to the
Desktop tab and then click the Customize Desktop button. Click on the
Web tab and uncheck the box that says to make your desktop a webpage
and also the box that locks the display. Apply and OK out. See if that
helps.

Thanks Malke. I never went into that screen and changed anything. But it
worked. Actually, I unchecked "Security..." which is basically what you said
to do, then I added a .jpg back and it worked. Thanks again.

The "security.html" is a known malware issue. I've had it on several
clients' machines. Do a search for "security.html" and delete that
file. If the admittedly lame XP Search can't find it, then get the free
Agent Ransack search program here:

http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/

It's great.

Hi,

This has to do with having Security listed under Web. More info:

To correct, go to:

Display Properties/Desktop/Customize Desktop/Web and uncheck Security.

As per the mention of not being able to right click the Desktop, this is
related. What happens is that desktop.exe, puts a web page on top of the
normal desktop.

How about clearly describing the exact problem you are having. Please
include what you've already done to troubleshoot and a good description
of just what you *do* see on the Web tab. Remember, we can't see your
computer from here and many posts going back and forth with you giving
just a small amount of information and me asking for clarification are
a waste of both our time.

I am having a similar problem, however, it is on a new, clean install of XP
SP2 and I cannot find any malware. It worked fine for a couple of days, but
then all of a sudden, developed the following problem.

I can set the wallpaper to a photo in "my pictures" and it stays until I
reboot. Then it displays as if there is no wallpaper chosen, however in the
desktop display properties, the original photo is shown as the selection.

I have tried the fixes suggested in this thread without any success, since
the indicated boxes were not checked.

I'd be thankful for any further help.

Try running these two edits on Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 142: Allow Wallpaper/Background Changes
Line 54: Save Settings on Exit

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.

In the future it's not a good idea to post a new question as a response to
someone else's thread. Create a new thread and if needed copy the contents
of other threads to your new thread.

Rock,

Thanks for your response & in the future I will post as you indicated.

I tried all of the suggested fixes to no avail and then a thought occurred
to me. My drive is partitioned into C: & D: drives with "My Documents"
residing on D: and OS on C: Perhaps, Windows was not finding the
wallpaper
file I wanted to use on D: drive, so I copied the file to
C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper and now it works fine.

Don't know if that's how its supposed to work, but I'm willing to work
with
it that way.

Thanks again,

How did you move My Documents to the other drive? There are several ways,
but one way to move these special folders is to use TweakUI, one of the MS
powertoys. Depending on how you moved the folder, it should have found the
wallpaper there. Glad you got a resolution and thanks for posting back
with it.

I am having the same problem the first guy had. I have tried everything said
to try in this forum but to no avail. All I did before this problem started
was ran a virus scan. After the restart my background was covered with a
solid blue page. I for whatever reason cannot click in the background section
of the desktop tab in the display properties menu. When I click on the
customize desktop button in this tab there is no security button or display
as web page option. Please help me try to figure out what I have to do to fix
this problem. Could it be possible that during the virus scan some file got
deleted because of it being infected? I've told you everything that I did up
to & after the problem. I'm lost now what can I do?
