This probably sounds stupid but could anyone here tell me if this can wake a
computer thats off? I can wake up computers on standby and hibernate and was
wondering if it could be done when the computer is off.
 
Yes it can wake up a computer that is shut down. The computer's BIOS as
well as the NIC must support it. You might need a special utility or
NIC driver to make it work. Check with your pc manufacturer, or search
the net for "wake up lan" or "wol" or "remote wakeup". I know for
example that Remote WakeUp is not enabled on the Windows 2000 native
3Com 3C905C NIC driver. You might want to check here for more advice &
