"wait for dial tone" ??

Modem Properties | Modem "wait for dial tone" box is checked. But if phone
line is disconnected or in use, I get "777 The connection attempt failed
because the modem on the remote computer is out of order" instead of the
proper "no dial tone".

I found this in the modem log:

05-12-2004 05:35:38.388 - Dialing.
05-12-2004 05:35:38.398 - Send: ATDT#######<cr>
05-12-2004 05:35:38.508 - Recv: <cr><lf>NO DIALT
05-12-2004 05:35:38.508 - Unknown Response

and suspect it may be related, but don't know cause or how to fix. Any
ideas??

It sounds like your modem isn't giving a standard response to the no dial
tone condition. If you haven't updated your modem driver, go to the Website
of your modem's manufacturer and get the latest driver or, if you can't
determine the manufacturer, buy a new modem. They're usually less than
$10.00 USD.

In case anyone's interested, firmware update fixed problem -- and wrecked
compatability with the server, and couldn't be undone. After switching ISP,
working better than ever though.
