I have Windows 2000 Professional, SP2, and find that when I access
certain web sites the whole system hangs up. Mouse and keyboard cease
to respond, no more system clock updates, nothing. Only solution is to
reset the PC. The behaviour is reproducible ie the systems locks
everytime I try to access these sites.

I feel this is a Windows2000 problem, rather than IE since the same
behaviour occurs with Netscape.
Perhaps someone can tell me what is happening, or, where to look to
find out.

I'd just about guarantee that your problem is related to browser plug-ins or Browser Helper Objects. This isn't a Windows 2000
problem.

Download and use BHODemon.
Download, install and run one of the scumware/spyware removers (Ad Aware or SpyBot).

John,

Go to Windows Update, under tools in IE, and update
Windows 2000 to the latest SP4, and update IE to it's
latest SP, and install all critical updates, and see if
your problem is resolved. Keeping your machine updated
can solve many of your problems, and yes we know it can
sometimes cause problems, but I would try that first.

Nice, simple little tool... BHODemon... definitely a keeper!
