Hi W2K Gurus:
I am just about at the end of my rope! The only progress
I've made in dealing with this issue is that I can re-
create it.
Basically when adjusting aspects of an image in Photoshop
(such as Saturation), running Quake 2, or browsing a
website with Flash, my system will occasionally freeze--
the screen will freeze and I can hear the HD and DVD spin
down momentarily, and then all I can do is power off and
on. There is no STOP blue screen or anything--just a
spontaneous freeze and the sound of components resetting
themselves.
I have tested all the hardware in the system--CPU, RAM,
video, etc., and no bad components. I have found that
pulling one of the SIMMS causes the system to crash less
often, and disabling ethernet card also reduces the rate
of crashing a bit...but it still crashes! The problem is
not caused by overheating, either. It is also not caused
by buggy video driver, because it crashed even with a
generic video driver.
Anyone who can help I promise you will get endless great
karma if we can find an answer to this one.
My system is a Dell Inspiron laptop, built in Y2K, 750
MHz, 512 MB, 8 MB ATI Mobility P Video, 30 Gig HD. Running
Win2K, latest everything.
Thanks,
Chateau
