I use Google Groups to read the posts to various groups and it puts a
list of my subscribed groups on the left side of the screen, but
without any apparent order.

Is there any way to sort this list of groups? I couldn't find anything
about it on Google's site.

Thanks for any info.

Have you considered using a real newsreader? They are so much more
versatile than G2 and your ISP should have UseNet access. There are
also some free and low-cost newservers that you can use.

I use this
Newsgroup Finder for Outlook Express
http://www.lorriman.com/software/newsgroupfinder/newsgroupfinder.htm

Works by itself, don't have to use OE,
cost $5 to reg pro version, but free 30day trial
checkit out. Shows all newsgroups anywhere, alphabetized with message counts
I love it.

Have to use proversion to get message count

I have used 'real' newsreaders and I prefer viewing the messages via my
browser, that's why I use Google Groups. It is much more efficient
than downloading messages.

Google Groups used to be good, but they seem to be losing their
customer-service attitude. Here's their response to my query: "We're
unable to answer questions about Google Groups Beta."

So, is there another way to view groups via the browser, that might
have a better interface?

You could write a javascript newsreader, but it would end up looking
like a newsreader, which you say you don't like. Your choices are 1)
Google, which you don't like or 2) a news reader, which you don't
like.
