I suspect this has been asked and answered before, but I don't see it in
the FAQ and am curious: why is there no setting for Tri-X, only for
TMax, in Vuescan?

That is a darn good question. I always used TriX, both 35mm and 4x5. I
used to develop it in some kind of liquid developer that was like honey
and thinned something like 35:1, but it was so long ago I forget.
However, I still have lots of negs.

I would be nice if there was...but what I've found is that I can tweak any
black&white by throwing a curve on it in Photoshop or Epson scan. If you
want the long toe that Tri-X has, slap a long toed curve on it. Try an
upswept curve, downswept...lately I've been using an ess-shape with a long
toe and tight shoulder.
