I'm running XP Pro at home. I want to make some resources on my machine
available as network shares to a friend who's working with me on a project.
I have a DSL connection and a static IP address. I configured my machine as
a VPN server and set up my router appropriately. My friend is able to
connect to my machine. It asks him for user name and password, and after he
logs in I can see a network connection icon in my system tray. I figure I
must have done something right to get that far.
But it doesn't quite work. My friend, once connected, cannot see anything on
my machine. He opens file explorer, expands the "entire network" nodes, and
sees nothing. I've shared a directory and given him permission to see it, so
I don't know why he can't. He also tried typing UNC names into the file
explorer address bar to reach my share directly (\\mymachine\sharename) but
that failed too.
I assume something isn't configured correctly. What might I need to change?
