VPN and group policies, SMS and other end-point management capabil

Hi,
Imagine one is connected via VPN.

Should I expect that my clients receive all group policies if they were in
the LAN network? Is SMS going to work if people are connected via VPN?

I am asking because the expectation in my organization is that we should
adopt a remote access solution which should let remote connections work as if
they were in our LAN. I am afraid that is not realistic though and I would
like to see your feedback on this.
