I am using Word 98 for the Macintosh and am trying to type vowels with the long and short symbols that are placed above the vowel to designate the long or short pronunciation.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Thank you. I will read through those suggestions, however, the options in "insert symbol" in Word 98 for the Macintosh do not list the type of symbol I'm looking for. The ones listed are mainly for foreign language accents, etc. I'm looking for the long, short, schwa, etc.

I believe it's more difficult to insert extended characters on a Mac, but
most Unicode fonts include vowels with macrons and breves in the Latin
Extended-A character set. The schwa is at 0259 in the IPA Extensions.
