Greetings...

Try as I may, I'm unable to get the volume control to show up in my system tray. I have the box checked to 'Always Show', have the 'Place volume icon in the taskbar' checked, and have the file 'sndvol32.exe'.

Any other suggestions?

This is happening on my desktop with a relatively new XP install; my laptop running a 2-year-old version doesn't display this trait.

TIA...

Mike

Hi,

I have a quite similar problem with a power indication icon i/t system
tray that never remains visible for long periods, so read the advise I
got from a member o/t forum, and let me know if it works for you.
Proceed as following:

Go the main page > on the top click members > scroll to my forum name
Guydpb > i/t colum find posts, click search o/t row with my name > go
to the thread near the bottom o/t page were it says system tray won't
hide icons > read the response I got from a certain "roger" and try out
some of his suggestions > consequently read my posts on this thread to
find some similaritudes with your problem.

Mike, its called notification area in XP. Go to Help and Support Center and type in "adding volume icon to " and follow directions. I have same problem.

Open Sound and Audio Devices and then on the Volume tab under Device Volume you can elect to place the volume icon in the Taskbar (dichotomy on MS part here). If there you have "always show" Volume Icon then right click on the "Notification area" and in Start etc you'll see the Volume Icon and change it to always show... where the others are usually only show when being used.

That probably won't work either, but that's MS's message... Tut.

Mike, I found I kept losing it when I had the system set up for auto log in
(only happened in the last month). Since changing the system to not
automatically log in solved the situation for me.

As indicated in my original post I've done all that, to no avail. Still
hoping someone can provide a solution.
