Anyone here use VoIP for telephone service? Maybe Packet8 or Vonage?
Or maybe there is another News Group more specific to VoIP?

Thanks, jimbo

I'm sure someone does but it might help, at this point, if you ask a more
specific question if you had one. Have I played with VoIP? Yes and I was
lucky enough to be invited (I begged actually) to go to my old place or work
(a call center) where they rolled out VoIP to 750 seats. I did the heavy
looking on, asking questions, and that was about it other than getting to
play with it. The idea of being able to take your voice mail, message,
extension, etc with you no matter where you sit? That's absolutely
remarkable and fantastic! Anyhow, I likely can't give you too many answers
unless it's about silly stuff like QoS and the likes but if you have a
specific question then someone will happily answer if they know it.

I would like to know if a dial-up Internet connection will work over a
VoIP phone line. If I had Packet8 with VoIP phone in my house, could I
dial my dial-up ISP and connect to the Internet? I know this sounds
strange. If I have VoIP, I must have broadband so why would I want to
use 56k dial-up? Well, I have this dial-up account that I use when I
travel and I like to use it once in a while just to be sure everything
is working.

Thanks, jimbo

I've had AT&T Callvantage for about a year. I've never tried what you're
describing but doubt it'd work very reliably. But Callvantage has a feature
you can enable to do faxing and then disbale it afterward. It would
probably work with that feature enabled.
